Albert Laszlo, double bass. Early training on the violin; began bass studies at the age of 12, and later studied cello with George Neikrug and Stephen Kates. Has served as principal bass of both the National Chamber Orchestra of New York and I Solisti New York. Became principal bass of the Columbus Symphony Orchestra (OH) in 1985 and has appeared as a featured soloist with that orchestra. Author of The Double Bass Workbook; has recorded Favorites for Double Bass, a collection of his own transcriptions. Appears frequently in recital with his wife, pianist Patricia Wood. Faculty, Aspen Music Festival, since 1994; serves as principal bass of the Aspen Chamber Symphony and performs chamber music with other members of the Aspen artist-faculty. Associate professor of double bass at the College-Conservatory of Music (U. of Cincinnati), where he has performed chamber music with members of the faculty both in Cincinnati and in New York's Merkin Hall.
Patricia Wood, piano, has performed in Alice Tully Hall, Merkin Hall, Music Barge, Paul Hall (New York City) and at the Aspen Music Festival. She accompanied master classes for Stephen Clapp, Dorothy DeLay, Yehuda Hanani, Kim Kaskashian, Paul Katz and many others. Some of the auditions and competitions she accompanies include the Graz Midwest Orchestral Auditions, MTNA Wurlitzer Collegiate Artists Competition, ASTA state, regional and national auditions, the William Byrd Competition and Kingsville International Young Performers. She accompanied winners of National Federation of Music Clubs Artist Competition and has taught at The Ohio State University, Bergen College and Ohio Wesleyan University. She studied piano with Jeaneane Dowis, Sophia Rosoff, Leonard Shure and Richard Tetley-Kardos; harpsichord with Doris Ornstein and Gordon Wilson; vocal accompanying with Hans Peter Schilly, Norman Shetler (Summer Vocal Institute, Graz, Austria); and chamber music with Claus Adam, Paul Kantor, Rita Sloan and Karen Tuttle (Aspen Music School).
